Bio
Bill Mixon, the photographer for Apple Tree Studios, has had a lifelong passion for photography
and the visual arts. He bought his first single-lens-reflex (SLR) 35mm camera at the age of twelve,
from money earned mowing his neighbors' lawns. Today, a few upgrades later, the equipment's a
little different but the enthusiasm's intact.
Always interested in the nexus between technology and the arts, Bill worked for many years in the
computer industry, as a hardware and software engineer. He helped design the groundbreaking K250
music synthesizer (one of the early professional "sampling" keyboards) at Kurzweil Music Systems.
He developed computer graphics, video and imaging software for several high-tech manufacturers and
consulting firms in the Boston area.
Lately his interest has turned towards exploiting the boundless potential of the Internet. He runs
a photographic and imaging business,
Apple Tree Studios
, and an online antiquarian bookshop,
LEAVES
.
Both these firms heavily leverage the Internet and the World Wide Web, from initial contact with new
customers to final delivery of product.
Bill is active in a number of local arts organizations, among them the
Fitchburg Cultural Alliance
(for which he serves as webmaster),
Fitchburg Access Television
, the
Leominster Art Association
, and
ArtsWorcester
. He is also a longtime member of the
Professional Photographers of America (PPA)
.
