All photographs by Apple Tree Studios are copyrighted by the photographer. This certifies that the photographer is the creator of the images, for attribution purposes.

Commissioned photographs are those of a personal nature (such as portraits) taken specifically for a nonbusiness client. The client obtains rights to personal (noncommercial) use of these photos, but not copyright ownership. If more rights are needed by the client, they may be obtained from the photographer.

If you have commissioned photos for personal use (as in a portrait, wedding or event package), you can view them, display them, publish them, trade them, loan them, give them away or enjoy them freely in many other ways.

However, please do not copy them, without obtaining the permission of the photographer. Also, you may not sell the photos for a profit, as that would be a commercial use.

The master files ("digital negatives") are not normally included in photo packages, but are available for a nominal fee. Such a purchase also would include permission to make copies, for noncommercial use.

The photographer reserves the right to use any and all images taken on commission, as examples of past work, in a sample portfolio. These images will not be sold, but may be shown to other prospective clients.

All photos are normally labeled with a copyright notice in the margin or on the back. (Note that photographs are implicitly copyrighted even in the absence of such marking.) Photographs also may be registered by the photographer with the US Copyright Office.
